“A Cabernet vintage. One of the greatest years of the century.” – Serge Hochar

1999 Chateau Musar was an exceptional year.

The grapes reached maximum maturity with great all-round concentration, displaying good acidity and a high sugar level.

Fermentation took place in cement vats with maceration periods of up to four weeks.

The 1999 Chateau Musar was aged for one year in French Nevers oak.

It was blended at the end of its second year (August 2001) and bottled in the summer of 2002.

Now beautifully mature, this red blend boasts remarkable longevity.

Furthermore, it presents an intense, evolving nose featuring red and black cherries, cassis, and violets, layered with secondary notes of cedar, woodsmoke, incense, and a hint of game or leather.

Moreover, on the palate, it delivers a rich and full-bodied experience with a fleshy texture.

In addition, you can expect to taste flavours of ripe plums, chocolate, and liquorice, balanced by vibrant, cherry-like acidity and silky, fully resolved tannins.

How best to enjoy Chateau Musar

Chateau Musar reds, bottled unfined and unfiltered, suit vegans.

Moreover, they also possess a richly-textured quality and are likely “throw a crust” and leave sediment in the bottle.

In fact, most fine wines commonly exhibit this feature, and Musar Red vintages over a decade old especially show it.

Ideally, therefore, you should stand the bottles up the night before opening to allow the sediment to settle.

After that, you should carefully decant and then discard the sediment, usually in the last centimetre of the bottle.

Subsequently, you should allow the wine to breathe for an hour.

Finally, serve it best at 18°C with roasts, grills (especially lamb), casseroles, game, and mature cheeses.
