Haut-Brion is the oldest wine-growing property in the Bordeaux region.

The commune of Pessac hosts Haut-Brion, just a few miles southwest of Bordeaux’s city centre.

The Pessac-Léognan appellation includes it, to the north of the Graves wine-growing region.

Château Haut-Brion is the only wine that holds both the First Growth status from the 1855 classification and Classified Growth of the Graves.

The first vines emerged on the gravel hillsides of Haut-Brion in the first century AD.

In 1521, Château Haut-Brion became the first Bordeaux wine estate to bear the name of its terroir, not the owner or the parish.

The world recognised it as the first luxury wine brand.

King Charles II enjoyed Château Haut-Brion at his table in the year of his coronation.

The English diarist Samuel Pepys noted on Friday 10th April 1663 a visit to the “Royall Oak Tavern, in Lumbard Street… and here drank a sort of French wine, called Ho Bryan, that hath a good and most particular taste that I never met with.”

Wine enthusiasts consider the 1999 Château Haut-Brion a very fine, elegant vintage that is perfect for drinking now.

Furthermore, experts note the 1999 vintage for its exceptional balance of aromatic elements and a long, sweet finish.

In addition, the nose reveals intense aromas, with notes of blackberry, cedar, black truffle, iodine, macerated black cherries, and a hint of dried herbs.

Moreover, the wine presents an impression of sweetness and harmony with light vanilla, caramel, and liquorice notes.

Additionally, the palate offers a medium- to full-bodied experience, very well balanced with soft, fine, and velvety tannins.

Finally, the finish provides an extremely long and elegant experience, displaying remarkable persistence of fruit and spice notes.
