Château Latour exclusively uses “vieilles vignes” (old vines).
These vines have an average of 60 years-old in the “Enclos”, which contains the Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.
The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, produces the concentration that we expect of Château Latour.
Here, the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) achieves optimal expression.
1999 red wine for sale – Château Latour 1999
The 1999 Château Latour is a well-regarded, medium-bodied Bordeaux red wine that is fully developed and in its prime drinking window now.
It is characterised by notes of dark berries, cedar, and minerals, with a refined, elegant structure.
- The winter was drier than normal.
- The first Merlot bud-break was on 20 March and for the Cabernet Sauvignons on 5 April.
- Dry, hot weather followed, accelerating the opening of the buds.
- Subsequently rain, cold and wind delayed the vines’ growth.
- The weather quickly improved in May.
- The end of June and July were particularly hot with temperatures of 30–35°C.
- August was more difficult because regular showers increased the risk of disease.
- The sun stayed out properly after 20 August.
- On 14 September the first grapes to enter the vats confirmed the Château Latour 1999 vintage’s great richness.
- The harvests ended on 30 September.
Château Latour 1999 is a vintage with great character.
Dark, complex, balanced, with excellent concentration, rich in fruit.
Château Latour 1999 has aromas of very ripe black cherries, wild strawberries, blackcurrants and plums.
The tannins are silky and the palate is long and sleek, with great freshness.
The 1999 vintage is an opulent, concentrated, and surprisingly forward Latour, with high levels of sweet tannins.
Finally, Arden Fine Wines sells this 1999 red wine – Château Latour 1999.
