Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay.
It is in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.
The vineyard straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet
It produces what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.
Four other Grand Cru vineyards surround it, all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.
Many generally consider Montrachet superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this reflects in its higher price.

Tiny, at just 1.65 acres in size and with vines whose average age is 65 years, DRC produces an incomparable Montrachet.
These are the oldest vines owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
The wine offers a span of drinkability that is unmatched in Burgundy.
The 2011 vintage was a battle, but pyrrhic only in its quantity, heavily reduced by a cocktail of capricious malevolence throughout a large part of the growing season.
In 2011, Vosne-Romanée avoided the hail storms that so afflicted the Côte de Beaune although of course a hailstorm affected Le Montrachet in July.
The DRC Montrachet 2011 displays a rich gold colour.
The nose presents a beautiful, almost lazy, butterscotch creamy density that is utterly seductive with just a hint of citrus and marmalade.
Then the palate showcases an effortlessly supple, measured concentration, very pure, linear, relaxed.
The wine has a lick of acidity that lifts the weight into a layered seductive balance.
Overall, the wine is quite lovely.
The 2011 DRC wines received acclaim as among the greatest successes of the vintage but once again producers faced a vintage of sharply-reduced quantity.
Ultimately, the producers created only 3,178 bottles of DRC Montrachet 2011.
