Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrĂ´lĂ©e (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay in the CĂ´te de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.

Interestingly, it straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet.

Notably, these villages produce what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.

Moreover, it is surrounded by four other Grand Cru vineyards all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.

However, Montrachet itself is generally considered superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this is reflected in its higher price.

1969 DRC Montrachet

The 1966 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Montrachet has earned acclaim as a highly regarded and rare white Burgundy wine.

Wine enthusiasts widely consider this wine one of the greatest dry white wines in the world due to its immense complexity, elegance, and power.

Wine critics generally regarded the 1969 vintage for Burgundy as excellent, and this wine serves as a prime example.

DRC itself claims that “Montrachet is of unequaled complexity, its elegance and power make it an exceptional wine!”.

According to a community tasting note on CellarTracker, tasters describe the wine as “perfect,” with a “luminescent light gold” colour and fresh acidity.

Some describe its taste as “chewing on a freshly blooming piece of honeysuckle,” with remarkable length.

The wine typically exhibits a buttery and complex style with notes of honey, ripe pear, acacia, and hazelnut when younger.

Over time, it develops more complex, tertiary aromas.

Ultimately, DRC produced 2,160 bottles of DRC Montrachet 1969.

Accordingly, you can discover this super-rare white Burgundy wine at the award-winning Arden Fine Wines in London.
