Château Latour is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) with an average of 60 years-old in the Enclos, Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.

The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of Château Latour.

It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness.

These wines need time – often a decade – before they begin to be ready for drinking.

Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

Château Latour 1969

The 1969 Château Latour is a vintage red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France.

Wine experts generally considered the 1969 Bordeaux vintage weak due to heavy rain, but Château Latour’s unique terroir has allowed some bottles to age gracefully.

After a generally mild, wet winter, interspersed with a few cold spells, the vine growth began on 4 April.

The weather remained poor and rainy in May.

This severe weather continued until 7 June.

Good weather during flowering occurred, followed by a deterioration in temperatures to below normal.

The weather affected flowering and continued until 5 July.

July brought hot and sunny days, but with some flower abortion due to the previous conditions.

August turned rather cool, and rain fell until 22 September.

Fortunately, thanks to the low temperatures, the rot spread slowly.

The vineyard workers harvested the grapes from 29 September–15 October.

Château Latour 1969 was rather austere in its youth but developed rapidly.

Tasting notes from well-preserved bottles include mature dark fruit, leather, grilled meat, and eucalyptus.

Other aromas that tasters reported include autumn leaves, pencil shavings, and graphite.

Arden Fine Wines offers this 1969 red wine for sale.
