Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.

Interestingly, it straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet.

Notably, these villages produce what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.

Moreover, it is surrounded by four other Grand Cru vineyards all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.

However, Montrachet itself is generally considered superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this is reflected in its higher price.

DRC Montrachet 1966 price

The 1966 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Montrachet has earned acclaim as a highly regarded and rare vintage white Burgundy wine.

Interestingly, Burgundy experienced a generally very good 1966 vintage, with a successful harvest thanks to a fine summer that ensured full ripeness.

Wine enthusiasts consider this wine to be at its peak and beautiful to drink now.

Moreover, while most 1966 white Burgundies may have passed their best, top examples like the DRC Montrachet continue to drink well, showcasing their structure and balance.

First, the colour shines light and gold.

Then the nose opens, revealing aromas of truffles, honey, butter, citrus, and spice.

Subsequently, the taste delivers concentration, well-structure, perfect balance, and power.

Finally, the finish leaves a long, pure, and spicy impression.

DRC itself claims that “Montrachet is of unequaled complexity, its elegance and power make it an exceptional wine!”.

Ultimately, DRC produced 2,888 bottles of DRC Montrachet 1966.

Accordingly, you can discover this super-rare DRC Montrachet 1966 price at the award-winning Arden Fine Wines in London.
