Vintage wine 1985 at Arden Fine Wines – Chateau Musar 1985

A classical vintage produced with no major problem except one: its size.

Good conditions in the winter led to a fresh summer.

In fact, this was one of the smallest vintages in a decade at Chateau Musar.

Nonetheless, the wine ranks as one of the biggest.

Moreover, the winemakers feature natural yeast fermentations.

Furthermore, they blended and bottled it in 1987.

Finally, it has an alcohol content of 14% Alc./Vol.

Chateau Musar 1985 today

Despite the ongoing Lebanese Civil War at the time, winemaker Serge Hochar produced a wine that remains vibrant and stable decades later.

It has mature fruit notes like maraschino cherries, crushed strawberry, and cassis, layered with savoury elements of aniseed, cedar, leather, and smoky spice.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a silky texture and refreshing acidity that has allowed it to age magnificently.

How best to enjoy Chateau Musar

Chateau Musar reds, bottled unfined and unfiltered, suit vegans.

Moreover, they also possess a richly-textured quality and are likely “throw a crust” and leave sediment in the bottle.

In fact, most fine wines commonly exhibit this feature, and Musar Red vintages over a decade old especially show it.

Ideally, therefore, you should stand the bottles up the night before opening to allow the sediment to settle.

After that, you should carefully decant and then discard the sediment, usually in the last centimetre of the bottle.

Subsequently, you should allow the wine to breathe for an hour.

Finally, serve it best at 18°C with roasts, grills (especially lamb), casseroles, game, and mature cheeses.
