In 1636, Nicolau Kopkë began a journey from Hamburg to Portugal, which marked the start of a long story.
He settled in Portugal as the Consul General of the Hanseatic League.
Two years later, in 1638, he shipped the first bottles of wine to northern Europe.
In 1781, the company purchased a farm in the Douro, transitioning from a wine-buying enterprise to a major producer.
The company gradually shifted its focus to Port Wine, which soon became its main business.
