Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.
There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.
- In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
- Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
- In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
- Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.
Only Grand Cru wines are produced by the Domaine, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1982
Top producers like DRC achieved remarkable results with their Pinot Noir in the 1982 vintage in Burgundy.
It is a year that many consider better for whites than reds.
Overall, wine enthusiasts highly regard Romanée-St-Vivant 1982 as a fully mature red Burgundy.
You can expect a complex, evolved aroma of cherries, raspberries, and blackberries, layered with tertiary notes of truffle, forest floor, autumn leaves, and Asian spices.
Many consider Romanée-St-Vivant to be the most “elegant” wine in the DRC portfolio, characterised by its remarkable finesse, silky tannins, and a delicate, floral elegance.
Interestingly, at the time of this vintage, DRC managed the site for the Marey-Monge family; they did not take full ownership until 1988.
In 1982, DRC produced 25,840 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.
