A Grand Cru vineyard for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, France, produces Romanée-Conti with Pinot noir as the primary grape variety.

Notably, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns the monopole (single owner vineyard) situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée, and takes its name from the vineyard.

Interestingly, Roald Dahl mentions Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti in his 1979 novel My Uncle Oswald.

“Smell it! Inhale the bouquet! Taste it! Drink it! But never try to describe it! It is impossible to put such a flavour into words! To drink a Romanée-Conti is like having an orgasm in the mouth and the nose both at the same time.”

DRC Romanée-Conti 1993

The 1993 growing season in the Côte de Nuits produced wines with notable toughness and prominent tannins.

While they remain unyielding in their youth, these wines have, over time, evolved into dense, powerful expressions.

True to the challenging and tannic nature of the 1993 Burgundy vintage, this rare red wine indeed characterizes itself by its signature austerity, immense ageing potential, and firm structural grip.

Initially, the nose presents aromas of red strawberry, mature cherry, and cranberry, accented by distinct cool-climate herbal undertones, hoisin, and freshly grated ginger.

Then, on the palate, it offers a medium to full-bodied experience, leaning towards an austere, tightly wound style.

Moreover, it strikes a balance between its characteristic earthy grip and a sweet core of dark red fruits.

Furthermore, it possesses high acidity paired with persistent, firm tannins.

Overall, the finish remains remarkably long but linear, consequently showing immense longevity.

Interestingly, just 3,600 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti emerged in 1993.
