The fermentation of 2000 Chateau Musar progressed well.

Specifically, it progressed slowly, with very little heat, as it remained naturally under control.

Interestingly, the level of alcohol increased higher than usual; in fact, it reached almost the same as 1999.

Furthermore, they conducted fermentation in cement vats, with maceration periods of up to four weeks.

Additionally, they aged the 2000 Chateau Musar for one year in French Nevers oak.

Overall, it achieved 13.5% Alc./Vol.

Chateau Musar 2000 today

Over 25 years after the vintage was released, 2000 Chateau Musar retains its primary fruit whilst really starting to reveal the classic Musar identity.

The wine balances out the characteristic sweet spice and desiccated fruit notes with more evolved elements of leather, tar, tobacco and a hint of game.

A fresh lick of acidity lifts these complex aromas and flavours, ensuring that the wine continues to age gracefully for years to come.

How best to enjoy Chateau Musar

Chateau Musar reds, bottled unfined and unfiltered, suit vegans.

Moreover, they also possess a richly-textured quality and are likely “throw a crust” and leave sediment in the bottle.

In fact, most fine wines commonly exhibit this feature, and Musar Red vintages over a decade old especially show it.

Ideally, therefore, you should stand the bottles up the night before opening to allow the sediment to settle.

After that, you should carefully decant and then discard the sediment, usually in the last centimetre of the bottle.

Subsequently, you should allow the wine to breathe for an hour.

Finally, serve it best at 18°C with roasts, grills (especially lamb), casseroles, game, and mature cheeses.
