Château Latour exclusively uses “vieilles vignes” (old vines).

These vines have an average of 60 years-old in the “Enclos”, which contains the Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.

The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, produces the concentration that we expect of Château Latour.

Here, the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) achieves optimal expression.

1998 red wine for sale – Château Latour 1998

The 1998 Château Latour is a well-regarded, fully mature red Bordeaux wine.

It is noted for its elegance and classic Pauillac structure.

It is drinking well now and is not expected to improve significantly with further ageing.

The 1998 vintage was uneven in Pauillac due to the later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon being more affected by the late September rains.

However, top châteaux with the best terroirs – like Latour – produced excellent, high-quality, classic wines.

These wines have developed well over time and are now showing tremendous promise.

Many 1998 Bordeaux are now in their prime drinking window or approaching it.

They offer excellent quality for their age and good value. .

The colour of this 1998 wine is a dark garnet/purple or deep red colour, with some ageing visible at the rim.

The bouquet is complex, featuring prominent notes of cassis, blackberry, and plum, layered with cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, underbrush, and hints of coffee or mocha.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with rich fruit flavours (black cherry, cassis, raspberry).

The tannins are firm but well-integrated, leading to a long, persistent finish.

The wine is in its prime drinking window.

It is not a “blockbuster” Latour vintage but is highly pure and well-balanced.

Finally, Arden Fine Wines sells this 1998 red wine – Château Latour 1998.
