Château Lafite Rothschild

Lafite Rothschild wine steeped in a history that started in the late 17th century, when Jacques de Ségur first planted the vineyards.

In the early 18th century, Nicolas-Marie-Alexandre de Ségur, the Marquis de Ségur, who inherited the estate, marketed the wines to the nobility of France and across Europe.

When Lafite entered the court of Versailles, demand for the wine reached record heights.

The Marquis de Ségur earned the title “The Prince of Vines”.

In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild purchased the Château.

The Rothschilds have owned the estate ever since.

Lafite Rothschild possesses one of the largest vineyard areas in the Médoc, with 112 hectares that yield about 45,000 cases annually.

Pauillac sits on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, approximately 40km North of Bordeaux.

With the tempering influence of the estuary and a great diversity of soils originating from both the Massif Central and the Pyrenees, Pauillac boasts exceptional climatic and geological conditions to produce outstanding wines.

Lafite Rothschild lies to the north of the Pauillac appellation, bordering Saint Estèphe.

Lafite’s best terroirs stretch across the 50ha Plateau des Carruades to the west of the Château.

This plateau, which is the highest point of the Pauillac appellation, drains well and enjoys optimal sun exposure.

Its clay-gravel soils offer excellent water regulating abilities and provide optimal ripening conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Some 4.5 ha planted in the neighbouring Saint Estephe appellation count among the oldest vines of the property.

They deliver year after year grapes of outstanding quality for the Grand Vin.

1998 vintage wine for sale – Château Lafite Rothschild 1998

Château Lafite Rothschild 1998 is a highly-rated, full-bodied Bordeaux red wine from the Pauillac appellation.

In fact, the weather challenged the 1998 vintage in the Médoc, marking it with a hot August and wet September.

However, severe grape selection (only 34% of the harvest went into the Grand Vin) at Lafite resulted in an exceptional wine.

The winemakers crafted the wine as a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot.

First, it displays a deep, dark, opaque purple or ruby-red colour.

Then, the aroma captivates with prominent notes of lead pencil, smoky mineral, black currant, cassis, and tobacco leaf.

On the palate, this 1998 wine delivers a full-bodied, rich, and elegant experience, with sweet, silky, yet structured tannins.

Finally, it presents flavours of dark berries, plum preserves, and earthiness, leading to a very long, savoury finish.

Ultimately, Arden Fine Wines offers this 1998 vintage wine for sale – Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998.
