Château Latour is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) with an average of 60 years-old in the Enclos, Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.

The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of Château Latour.

It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness.

These wines need time – often a decade – before they begin to be ready for drinking.

Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

Château Latour 1968

The Château Latour 1968 is a mature, rare, and delicate wine.

The winter was mild and wet.

They observed budbreak on 30 March.

Cold early April brought frequent morning frosts. It even snowed on the 6th.

Then, a beautiful second half of April enabled the vines to grow quickly.

The first flowers appeared on 1 June.

Thick mist caused some flower abortion.

July generally brought hot weather with frequent storms.

An unusually cool, rainy August delayed the vegetative cycle.

So the rainwater logged the ground, bringing the threat of rot.

No improvement occurred in September: many bunches did not ripen in good conditions, and rot affected a substantial quantity of the harvest.

Finally, they harvested from 26 September to 12 October.

Château Latour 1968 is one of the lesser vintages of the decade, with 1963 and 1965.

Despite poor conditions, Château Latour produces quality wines even in difficult years.

For the 1968 vintage, tasters describe the wine as having a caramel nose and being round on the palate, though a bit short.

Arden Fine Wines offers this 1968 red wine for sale.
