Gaucelme de Castillon received an authorisation from Lord Pons to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert.
The Mullet family held the estate until the late 17th century.
While the leasing system gradually gave way to direct use of the land, the winemaking situation changed very little.
Alexandre de Ségur acquired Château Latour as a result of successive marriages and inheritances.
In 1714, a barrel of Château Latour commanded a price 4-5 times higher than a barrel of typical Bordeaux wine.
By 1729, the ratio rose to thirteen and by 1767 to twenty.
This flourishing trade gradually led the estate to specialise in wine production, with 38 hectares of vines in 1759 and 47 hectares by 1794.
The producers make Château Latour exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) with an average age of 60 years in the “Enclos”.
The heart of the Enclos is the only vineyard that, every year, produces the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect from Château Latour.
These wines need time – often a decade – before they become ready for drinking.
Château Latour also earned a reputation for producing fine wines even in difficult years.

The Château Latour 1937 is a rare, historic First Growth Bordeaux wine from the Pauillac appellation.
It was a challenging year for winemakers in 1937, with cool, dry conditions initially leading to high tannins and acidity.
The red Bordeaux wines were initially very tannic and hard, taking decades to soften.
However, top producers like Château Latour created structured, powerful wines that have held up remarkably well and can still be excellent today.
This 1937 wine is full-coloured, medium-bodied with silky tannins, and has flavours of blackberry, vanilla, coffee, leather, truffles, and chocolate.
It is known for its longevity and powerful, concentrated style.
Ultimately, you can find this Château Latour 1937 at Arden Fine Wines in London.
