Since it won its first medal in 1862, Château Cheval Blanc has maintained its place as one of the world’s greatest wines.
In 1832, Château Figeac sold 15 hectares (37 acres) to M. Laussac-Fourcaud.
As a result, this became Chateau Cheval Blanc.
Notably, in the International London and Paris Exhibitions in 1862 and 1867, it won medals still prominent on its labels.
Furthermore, the château remained in the family until 1998, when it was sold to Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère.
The late Clive Coates MW described Chateau Cheval Blanc as “the only great wine in the world made predominantly from Cabernet Franc.””
The vineyard area is spread over 41 hectares (100 acres), with 37 hectares (91 acres) planted with a composition of grape varieties of:
- 57% Cabernet Franc
- 40% Merlot
- and small parcels of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon
1906 red wine for sale – Château Cheval Blanc 1906
Wine experts generally recognise 1906 as a strong, high-quality vintage for Bordeaux in the early 20th century, producing powerful, late-ripening wines.
The hot and humid summer of 1906 marked the season, eventually drying out and leading to concentrated and robust wines.
Château Cheval Blanc 1906 now exhibits secondary and tertiary characteristics such as coffee and caramelised mushrooms.
Arden Fine Wines in London offers this 1906 red wine for sale.
