Château Latour’s Grand Vin is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes”, an average of 60 years-old, in the Enclos vineyard.
Gravettes, Sarmentier, Pièce de Château… these are the names of some of the finest plots that express the character of the terroir and forge the wine’s identity every year.
The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of the Grand Vin.
It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness.
These wines need time – often a decade- before they begin to be ready for drinking.
Château Latour 1995 for sale
- The mild, very rainy winter led to an exceptionally early bud-break.
- Moreover, this continued over a very long period (recorded on 27 February for the Merlot and 24 March for the Cabernet Sauvignon).
- Subsequently, the hot and dry June followed. Unfortunately, the drought alarmingly persisted throughout July and August.
- There was three times less rainfall than normal during these three months.
- The green harvests that took place from 17 July–4 August helped any overladen vines to withstand the heat wave.
- Fortunately, rain arrived on 7 September to resuscitate the vineyard and accelerate ripening.
- The harvests began with the Merlot on 13 September in overcast weather, and ended in fine weather on the 27th, after some rain.
- However, no signs of dilution were detected in the wines.
