Château Mouton Rothschild – From Marquis to Barons

Château Mouton Rothschild took its present name after Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired it in 1853.

For many years, however, Mouton aroused little interest among its owners.

Moreover, they were unwilling to make the journey to a then-neglected region.

It was a red-letter day when, in 1922, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took in hand the destiny of the estate.

Then, in 1924, Baron Philippe decided to bottle all the wine at the château.

Previously, the merchants took the wine in barrels.

This decision, soon embraced by others, meant that the château had to increase its storage space.

Therefore the architect Charles Siclis designed the spectacular Grand Chai (Great Barrel Hall) at Mouton, which they built in 1926.

1995 red wine gift – Château Mouton Rothschild 1995

The Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 has gained high acclaim as a full-bodied Bordeaux blend red wine from the Pauillac appellation.

Wine enthusiasts know it for its intense fruit, complex aromas, and excellent ageing potential.

The winemaker created intense and opulent aromas, with a deep bouquet of ripe cassis fruit, blackberries, and plums, intermingled with nuances of cedar, tobacco, truffles, coffee, and spice.

The palate showcases a full-bodied, rich, and layered experience with a vibrant core of concentrated fruit.

It features dense yet polished tannins and balanced acidity.

Wine lovers have found this wine drinkable for some years but it still remains remarkably youthful and can be cellared for many more.

The Catalan painter and sculptor Antoni Tàpies designed the Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 label.

He was born in Barcelona in 1923.

Through his fusion of Eastern and Western influences, Tàpies develops a distinctive style that provokes a disturbing, unspoken dialogue between man and matter, where the spiritual struggles with stark reality.

A nose, two hearts, a mouth, an eye: Tàpies conceived and annotated the scarlet design for the Mouton Rothschild 1995 label, proclaiming, with a smile, that feast of the senses which promises a great wine.
