Montrachet serves as an Appellation d’origine contrĂ´lĂ©e (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay in the CĂ´te de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.

The vineyard straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet and produces what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.

Four other Grand Cru vineyards surround it, all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.

Many generally consider Montrachet superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this reflects in its higher price.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produced 1,824 bottles of Montrachet 1965.

DRC Montrachet price – 1965 DRC Montrachet

This DRC Montrachet 1965 showcases a rare and exceptional Chardonnay from the renowned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC).

It was produced from late-harvested, meticulously selected grapes grown in the Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard.

However, the 1965 vintage presented a challenging one in Burgundy, as rain affected the harvest and led to moderate ripeness levels.

Nevertheless, despite these conditions, DRC’s renowned vineyard management and late-harvesting practices enabled them to create a wine of impressive concentration.

Moreover, connoisseurs know mature bottles of the DRC Montrachet 1965 for their complexity and remarkable freshness after decades of ageing.

Consequently, expect a subtle yet elegant aroma profile.

In addition, tasters can identify notes of white truffle, ripe wheat, apricot, and hints of white clay.

Furthermore, the palate features an outstanding fine acid structure and concentrated, low-yield Chardonnay fruit.

For instance, one taster described the taste as having a “certain affinity” with a Grand Cru Chablis but with more volume. Another noted a harmonious blend of fleshiness and mellowness, both equally persistent.

Ultimately, the aftertaste delivers a masterful, long, and beautifully balanced experience, with a gently forceful nature.

In conclusion, reviewers consistently praise the DRC Montrachet 1965 for its ability to show power and authority despite its age and the challenges of its vintage.
