Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrĂ´lĂ©e (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay.
It is in the CĂ´te de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.
The vineyard straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet
It produces what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.
Four other Grand Cru vineyards surround it, all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.
Many generally consider Montrachet superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this reflects in its higher price.

Neither the harsh filter of youth nor the frequently traumatic growing season reveals the irreversible beauty of these DRC 2007s.
They embody grace, a rare quality in even great wines that combines a delicate but persistent richness with purity.
In Montrachet, the weather in early August affected the Chardonnay more.
Unusually, the winemakers needed to wait longer than the Pinot Noirs in the CĂ´tes de Nuits for full maturity.
The vineyard team completed the harvesting in this fabled vineyard by 17th September.
Overall, they brought in another reduced but beautiful crop.
The team bottled, without fining or filtration, in December 2008.
Tiny, at just 1.65 acres in size and with vines whose average age is 65 years, the wine remains incomparable.
It offers a span of drinkability that is unmatched in Burgundy.
Peachy, yellow gold in colour, the nose delivers quite a gorgeous experience.
It is latent with pendulously ripe, buttery fruit but with a balancing minerality, even stoniness of perfume.
This wine is is sensuous and elusive at the same time.
The palate also matches a silky, clean, pure elegance with profoundly seductive and intensely rich flavours.
Finally, the finish is pure, focused and of exceptional length.
Ultimately, the producers created 3,799 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet 2007.
