Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay.
It is in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.
The vineyard straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet
It produces what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.
Four other Grand Cru vineyards surround it, all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.
Many generally consider Montrachet superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this reflects in its higher price.

Tiny, at just 1.65 acres in size and with vines whose average age is 65 years, DRC produces an incomparable Montrachet.
Indeed, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns its oldest vines here.
Furthermore, the wine offers a span of drinkability that unmatched in Burgundy.
Montrachet’s reputation is as the greatest dry white wine in the world, so a lot to live up to.
But this wine is always beautiful, be it at six months from barrel or 25 years in bottle.
The 1989 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Montrachet Grand Cru is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most legendary, ultra-rare white Burgundies.
Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, this highly coveted bottle, moreover, has aromas and flavours of crème brûlée, buttery apple fruit, walnut, dried honey, caramel, and vanilla.
Furthermore, the palate is smooth in texture and, in contrast, counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity.
It has a rich, savoury finish of great length and power.
Ultimately, the producers created only 3,314 bottles of DRC Montrachet 1989.
