Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.
There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.
- In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
- Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
- In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
- Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.
Only Grand Cru wines are produced by the Domaine, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1986
The 1986 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Romanée-Saint-Vivant showcases a fully mature Grand Cru Burgundy.
Wine enthusiasts consider it a savoury and classic example of red Burgundy.
The gentle perfume of dried flowers, cloves, cinnamon, and spice greets the nose.
The palate reveals a medium-bodied and silky experience.
You can expect flavours of red cherry, strawberry, and earthy undertones like tobacco leaf and black tea.
Overall, the wine features high acidity and mature, fine-grained tannins.
During this period, DRC managed the Romanée-Saint-Vivant vineyard on behalf of the Marey-Monge family; the Domaine eventually acquired the site outright in 1988.
In 1986, DRC produced 13,776 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.
