Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
It is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.
There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.
- In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
- Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
- In 1988, the vineyard was bought from the Neyroud family, which had inherited it from Ms Marey-Monge.
- Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1975
The Romanée-St-Vivant 1975 is a rare and expensive Pinot Noir from a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy.
The wine is from a historically poor vintage, but some sources describe it as unexpectedly lush and flavourful with notes of fruit, earth, and spice.
Despite the vintage’s poor reputation, some bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant 1975 have reportedly performed better than expected.
These bottles exhibit more lushness than other DRC wines from the same year.
While the 1975 vintage was generally poor for Burgundy, some bottles of DRC Romanée-St-Vivant from that year can still offer a surprisingly rich and complex drinking experience.
Drinkers can expect a lush and fruity wine, with earthy notes, a smooth finish, and a touch of bitterness.
The wine exhibits characteristics of a classic Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru, known for producing soft, perfumed wines from its stony, clay-rich soils.
