A Grand Cru vineyard for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, France, produces Romanée-Conti with Pinot noir as the primary grape variety.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns the monopole (single owner vineyard) situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée, and takes its name from the vineyard.

Roald Dahl mentions Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti in his 1979 novel My Uncle Oswald.

“Smell it! Inhale the bouquet! Taste it! Drink it! But never try to describe it! It is impossible to put such a flavour into words! To drink a Romanée-Conti is like having an orgasm in the mouth and the nose both at the same time.”

Romanée-Conti 1975

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produces the 1975 Romanée-Conti, a well-aged and complex red wine from the Burgundy region of France.

However, winemakers faced a very difficult, cold, and wet growing season in 1975.

Ultimately, this led to the production of a less ripe and lighter-bodied wine than some of the region’s more celebrated vintages.

As a result, due to its age and the characteristics of the 1975 vintage, the wine shows evolved, mature flavours and aromas.

In terms of appearance, it displays a brick-coloured hue throughout with a lighter shade, which is expected from an older, mature Pinot Noir.

Moreover, it presents clean and surprisingly pleasant qualities, with notes of rose petal, spice, brown sugar, and caramel.

Additionally, the wine features background notes of damp earth (“sous bois”) and vegetation (“vegetal”).

Overall, it offers a round, soft, and easy-drinking flavour profile.

Although it lacks significant depth, tasters describe it as delicious.

Ultimately, the finish remains persistent.

Romanée-Conti 1975 is a very rare and highly sought-after vintage red wine from one of the world’s most famous domaines.
