The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) produces the highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy, Grands Échézeaux.
The DRC Grands Échézeaux vineyard is a 3.53-hectare parcel.
You can expect typical aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, along with floral notes, earth, and spices.
As the wine ages, it evolves into more complex notes of musk, leather, fur, and mushroom.
The wine presents a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and refined tannins.
Wines from Grands Échézeaux typically command a higher price and exhibit greater complexity and structure.
In comparison to DRC’s Échezeaux cuvée, the wine from DRC Grands Échézeaux generally presents more complexity and harmony.
DRC Grands Échézeaux showcases extraordinary ageing potential, requiring you to wait at least four to five years.
DRC Grands Échézeaux 1993
The 1993 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru is a significantly stronger and more complete wine than the 1994 vintage.
The 1993 vintage in Burgundy was a “triumph over nature”.
Despite severe September rains, cold winds and a hot summer allowed the Pinot Noir grapes to develop remarkably thick skins with massive tannic structure and high extract.
Because of this, the 1993 Grands Échézeaux was notoriously tough and austere in its youth, but it has aged into a muscular, highly complex, and texturally complete masterpiece.
DRC owns roughly 3.53 hectares of the Grands Échézeaux vineyard, yielding limited annual production numbers.
Overall, DRC created 8,385 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échézeaux in 1993.
As a result, this vintage is very scarce now.
