The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy from the historic Échézeaux vineyard.

Made from Pinot Noir, this wine stands out as one of the more powerful and robust offerings from the DRC portfolio while still maintaining a sense of elegance.

The Echézeaux vineyard sits on the slopes above Grands Échezeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot.

The soil in the Échezeaux climats (plots) features a more diverse and complex composition than that of Grands Échezeaux.

It consists of Bajocian marls mixed with gravel and alluvial deposits, exhibiting varying altitudes and gradients.

DRC cultivates approximately 4.67 hectares of the Echézeaux vineyard, which spans a total area of about 37.69 hectares.

The majority of DRC’s holdings focus on a highly regarded plot called Les Poulaillaires.

Wine enthusiasts consider the wines from DRC’s Échezeaux plots exquisite examples of top-tier Burgundy.

They showcase bright red fruit, spice, and savoury characteristics.

DRC Grands Échézeaux 1982

Although 1982 was a challenging year for red Burgundy, often considered a lesser vintage compared to the stellar 1982 Bordeaux, top producers like DRC still managed to create excellent wines.

At over 40 years old, this wine has entered its tertiary phase and requires drinkers to approach it with realistic expectations regarding its age.

It has a complex, tertiary profile with aromas of sous bois (forest floor), earth, subtle spices, and fading red fruits.

This wine is now delicate, elegant, and fully bricked in colour.

Overall, DRC created 23,104 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échézeaux in 1982.

As a result, this vintage is very scarce now.
