The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy from the historic Échézeaux vineyard.
Made from Pinot Noir, this wine stands out as one of the more powerful and robust offerings from the DRC portfolio while still maintaining a sense of elegance.
The Echézeaux vineyard sits on the slopes above Grands Échezeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot.
The soil in the Échezeaux climats (plots) features a more diverse and complex composition than that of Grands Échezeaux.
It consists of Bajocian marls mixed with gravel and alluvial deposits, exhibiting varying altitudes and gradients.
DRC cultivates approximately 4.67 hectares of the Echézeaux vineyard, which spans a total area of about 37.69 hectares.
The majority of DRC’s holdings focus on a highly regarded plot called Les Poulaillaires.
Wine enthusiasts consider the wines from DRC’s Échezeaux plots exquisite examples of top-tier Burgundy.
They showcase bright red fruit, spice, and savoury characteristics.
DRC Échézeaux 1977
The 1977 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux (or Grands Échézeaux) is a rare red Grand Cru Burgundy from a notoriously difficult, cool, and wet vintage.
Due to the harsh weather conditions of 1977 in France, bottles from this vintage are lean, fragile, and highly scarce.
The producers released 22,495 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échezeaux in 1977.
A bottle naturally evaporates very slowly through the permeable cork, so we only expect that an old bottle will be less full than a current vintage of the same wine.
This rare bottle remains in appropriate condition for its age.
Given its age and its condition, we offer this bottle principally for its historic interest and its significance as a 1977 vintage wine.
Finally, Arden Fine Wines in London offers the DRC Échézeaux 1977.
