The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy from the historic Échézeaux vineyard.

Made from Pinot Noir, this wine stands out as one of the more powerful and robust offerings from the DRC portfolio while still maintaining a sense of elegance.

The Echézeaux vineyard sits on the slopes above Grands Échezeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot.

The soil in the Échezeaux climats (plots) features a more diverse and complex composition than that of Grands Échezeaux.

It consists of Bajocian marls mixed with gravel and alluvial deposits, exhibiting varying altitudes and gradients.

DRC cultivates approximately 4.67 hectares of the Echézeaux vineyard, which spans a total area of about 37.69 hectares.

The majority of DRC’s holdings focus on a highly regarded plot called Les Poulaillaires.

Wine enthusiasts consider the wines from DRC’s Échezeaux plots exquisite examples of top-tier Burgundy.

They showcase bright red fruit, spice, and savoury characteristics.

DRC Échézeaux 1959

The 1959 DRC Échezeaux is, indeed, a highly regarded wine from an exceptional vintage, known for its maturity and complexity with rich flavours and a firm structure.

Furthermore, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produced 16,056 bottles of Échezeaux in 1959.

Experts, therefore, describe it as a wine of seduction, exhibiting a light to medium ruby colour, with a seductive tenderness and impressive intensity that has allowed it to evolve with elegance over the years.

Additionally, wine enthusiasts consider it the “little brother” to Grands-Echézeaux in terms of power and muscularity, yet it still displays considerable class.

Notably, the colour appears light to medium ruby.

Moreover, the aromas show exceptional spiciness, with sweet, round, and impressively rich flavours.

In fact, the wine boasts richness and complexity with excellent concentration, power, and body.
