“A vintage that impressed everyone when it was released in the early 2000s.

One US importer loved it so much that he decided to buy all our stock.

A couple of years later, it experienced a difficult phase. This is typical of Musar.

We explained this and told the importer that he only had to wait a little.

But he got upset, so we agreed to take back some of the cases.

Ten years later, we coincidentally met a day after we hosted a tasting with the 1994 Chateau Musar, which the guests voted as the best wine of the night.

The importer could not believe it. He wanted to buy his cases back, but the price was now completely different!” – Marc Hochar

  • They blended and bottled the wine unfined and unfiltered in 1997.
  • The winery rested the bottles in the cellars for 4 years before releasing them in 2001.

How best to enjoy Chateau Musar

Chateau Musar reds, bottled unfined and unfiltered, suit vegans.

Moreover, they also possess a richly-textured quality and are likely “throw a crust” and leave sediment in the bottle.

In fact, most fine wines commonly exhibit this feature, and Musar Red vintages over a decade old especially show it.

Ideally, therefore, you should stand the bottles up the night before opening to allow the sediment to settle.

After that, you should carefully decant and then discard the sediment, usually in the last centimetre of the bottle.

Subsequently, you should allow the wine to breathe for an hour.

Finally, serve it best at 18°C with roasts, grills (especially lamb), casseroles, game, and mature cheeses.
