Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.
There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.
- In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
- Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
- In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
- Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.
The Domaine produces only Grand Cru wines, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1994
The 1994 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru is a highly classic, savoury, and structured red Burgundy.
It has aromas of smoky red cherry, blackcurrant liqueur, and delicate spicy undertones.
The palate features crisp, apple-like acidity that is well-balanced and masked by rich, dark berry fruit flavours.
This wine’s aromas and flavours have passed their peak fruit stage and are now fully tertiary.
It is less naturally ripe than the celebrated 1995 vintage but retains excellent freshness and is ideal for current drinking.
In 1994, DRC produced, specifically, 11,485 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.
So, are you looking to purchase a bottle for a special occasion?
Alternatively, would you like to compare this to other 1994 DRC grand crus?
Ultimately, you can buy it from award-winning Arden Fine Wines in London.
