Description

1955 red wine for sale – Château Siran 1955 for sale at award-winning Arden Fine Wines in London.

Despite its location, terroir, and reputation deserving inclusion in the 1855 classification, the Toulouse-Lautrec family, owners of Siran and committed to their family tradition, declined the invitation to join this “Bonapartist classification.”

Classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Château Siran now forges its own unique path to excellence.

Siran in the 18th Century

The family story began in the mid-18th century when Léo Barbier fell for this harmonious estate, rich in biodiversity and undeniable charm.

The 17-hectare vineyard, in one block, lies in the heart of the Médoc’s finest terroirs.

Siran in the 19th Century

Bordeaux wine merchant Léo Barbier recognized this jewel’s qualities.

After acquiring it on January 14, 1859, from Jeanne-Adèle, Countess of Toulouse-Lautrec, he developed and enhanced the property.

His two daughters married brothers Paul and Alexandre Sollberg in 1866, but the sons-in-law went bankrupt between 1883 and 1885 and fled to Argentina.

In 1885, the family appointed Fréderic Miailhe, a nephew, to manage Siran.

Siran in the 20th Century

Fréderic Miailhe, a wine broker, fell in love with Siran and dedicated himself to it.

In 1915, he repurchased shares from his Sollberg aunts, for which we owe him great thanks, especially for the delightful 1918 vintage.

The Miailhe family, established in Portets in the 17th century, includes mayors, jurats, and advisors to the king.

Elie Miailhe became a broker in 1793, and his descendants maintained that profession until 1970.

Their drive led them to invest in the Médoc wine industry between 1920 and 1950.

Fréderic’s sons, Louis and Édouard, succeeded him.

After Édouard Miailhe’s death in 1959, the properties remained in family indivision, later distributing among his three children, with Siran going to his son William-Alain.
