In the year that saw the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, much of Europe was rained on during harvest and the wine that was made was generally poor.
One of the few exceptions was Paul Jaboulet Aîné’s great Rhône red Hermitage La Chapelle.
It was the last great wine made by Jacques Jaboulet before he had a terrible accident in 1992 that seriously affected his health.
Paul Jaboulet Aîné’s wines declined in quality thereafter.
A very good and well-priced wine of the (underwhelming almost everywhere) 1991 vintage.
