The name of Quinta do Noval first appeared in land registers in the year 1715.

António José da Silva, a port shipper from Porto, acquired Quinta do Noval in 1894, after its devastation by phylloxera.

He restored the property by replanting the vines.

Luiz Vasconcelos Porto, his son-in-law, was the author of a vast programme of innovations.

He transformed many of the narrow older terraces into broader terraces.

This permitted a more efficient use of the land and a better exposition to the sun.

Quinta do Noval made its name with the declaration of the 1931 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port and the 1931 Nacional Vintage Port.

  • Quinta do Noval Vintage Port is characterised by its purity of fruit and a fine, delicate quality.
  • However, Vintage Ports are declared only when Noval is certain that the year has produced a blend that is worthy of bearing the name of Quinta do Noval Vintage Port.
  • Therefore production of Quinta do Noval Vintage Ports are always extremely small.
  • In other words, up to 15% of the production of the vineyard.

Vintage wine 1960 – Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 1960

The 1960 Quinta do Noval is a rare vintage Port from a very good, though not universally declared, year.

Moreover, this vintage produced Ports with a charming elegance rather than immense power.

In fact, this 1960 Noval exemplifies this mature, refined style.

Furthermore, experts often describe the tasting notes for the 1960 Quinta do Noval as a colour moving towards garnet or amber.

Additionally, the nose expresses aromas of dried fruit, floral notes, and orange peel, developing into notes of tobacco, wood, spice, and sometimes hints of nuttiness or caramel.

On the palate, experts generally consider it medium-bodied with a silky texture and flavours of red fruit and toasted almond.

Consequently, the wine balances well, with good acidity, mature tannins, and a long finish, showcasing its elegance and charm.

This Port has reached full maturity, with experts recommending decanting.

Notably, these bottles of 1960 Quinta Do Noval Vintage Port lack labels.

Nevertheless, they serve as perfect examples of great Vintage Port!
