Description
Kopke Colheita Port 1965 at Arden Fine Wines.
A journey in 1636 between Hamburg and Portugal is the beginning of a long story…
Nicolau Kopkë settles in Portugal as Consul General of the Hanseatic League.
Two years later, in 1638, the first bottles of wine were shipped to the north of Europe.
The purchase of a farm in the Douro, in 1781, marked the transition from a wine buying company to a major producer.
Port Wine gradually became the focus of the company and soon represented its main business.
To taste a vintage fine wine is to taste history and, in the case of this 1965 Kopke Colheita, it means remembering a special event 60 years ago – a birthday or anniversary.
It is a wine of high quality, made from one single harvest.
A Colheita wine matures in oak barrels for periods of time that can vary, but never less than seven years.
Best served chilled, it reveals all its finesse and sophistication, especially when drunk with desserts made with caramel, dried fruit and spice, such as tarte tatin, or crème brulée, or with medium-strength cheeses.
