Montrachet is an Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for white wine made of Chardonnay.
It is in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy.
The vineyard straddles the border between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet
It produces what many consider to be the greatest dry white wine in the world.
Four other Grand Cru vineyards surround it, all having “Montrachet” as part of their names.
Many generally consider Montrachet superior to its four Grand Cru neighbours, and this reflects in its higher price.

Tiny, at just 1.65 acres in size and with vines whose average age is 65 years, DRC produces an incomparable Montrachet.
Indeed, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti cultivates its oldest vines here.
Moreover, this wine provides a timespan of drinkability that is unmatched for white Burgundy.
Montrachet’s reputation is as the greatest dry white wine in the world, thus it has a lot to live up to.
However, this wine always shines, be it at six months from barrel or after 25 years in bottle.
Due to devastating April frosts and persistent disease pressure throughout the season, yields were among the lowest in 50 years.
This resulted in a microscopic production of only 5 barrels.
The 2021 DRC Montrachet has a refined bouquet featuring lemon zest, white peach, and acacia flower.
On the palate, it is silky-smooth.
Additionally, it offers flavours of pear and lemon with a profound saline, mineral-driven finish that can last for minutes.
Ultimately, DRC released only 1,218 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet 2021.
Therefore it is currently one of the most difficult bottles of white wine to acquire globally.
