The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy from the historic Échézeaux vineyard.

Made from Pinot Noir, this wine stands out as one of the more powerful and robust offerings from the DRC portfolio while still maintaining a sense of elegance.

The Echézeaux vineyard sits on the slopes above Grands Échezeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot.

The soil in the Échezeaux climats (plots) features a more diverse and complex composition than that of Grands Échezeaux.

It consists of Bajocian marls mixed with gravel and alluvial deposits, exhibiting varying altitudes and gradients.

DRC cultivates approximately 4.67 hectares of the Echézeaux vineyard, which spans a total area of about 37.69 hectares.

The majority of DRC’s holdings focus on a highly regarded plot called Les Poulaillaires.

Wine enthusiasts consider the wines from DRC’s Échezeaux plots exquisite examples of top-tier Burgundy.

They showcase bright red fruit, spice, and savoury characteristics.

DRC Échézeaux 2000

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux 2000 is an elegant and expressive Pinot Noir that has reached its full drinking maturity.

It has a pale, translucent ruby/garnet core, often showing a wide amber or brick-coloured rim indicative of its two decades of age.

Then the nose has an explosive bouquet of red berries (strawberry, cherry), damp woodland undergrowth, and exotic spices.

At 25+ years old, you can expect secondary notes of sandalwood, fresh-picked truffle, and a subtle floral lift.

On the palate, it has a silky texture and excellent tension.

Overall, it balances sweet fruit with savoury elements like liquorice and mineral-tinged finishes.

Although lighter in body than more powerful vintages, the 2000 possesses fine, mature tannins and vibrant acidity that drives a very long finish.

The producers released 16,566 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échezeaux in 2000.

Finally, Arden Fine Wines in London offers the DRC Échézeaux 2000.
