Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.
There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.
- In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
- Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
- In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
- Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.
The Domaine produces only Grand Cru wines, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1996
The warm spring and cool summer characterised the 1996 vintage in Burgundy, leading to wines with vibrant acidity and firm structure.
DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1996 has a complex bouquet of red fruits, black cherries, and floral hints (roses, violets), with underlying notes of Asian spices, tea leaves, and earthy minerals.
The palate is elegant and linear rather than powerful, featuring an intricate interplay between ripe tannins and minerality.
Overall, it has matured into a complex wine with secondary notes of leather and truffle.
In 1996, DRC produced, specifically, 19,031 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.
