Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.

This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.

It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.

There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.

  • In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
  • Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
  • In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
  • Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.

The Domaine produces only Grand Cru wines, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.

DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1983

The 1983 growing season in Burgundy plagued the region with severe spring frost and summer hail.

Intense late-summer humidity triggered widespread rot.

To overcome the poor weather, DRC forced its pickers to sort grape by grape rather than by whole bunches, throwing away any compromised fruit.

DRC bottled their wines barrel-by-barrel until the mid-1980s.

Because of this traditional practice, collectors should expect noticeable variation in freshness and flavour profile between individual bottles of this specific vintage.

In 1983, DRC produced 10,105 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.

Counterfeiters frequently target DRC bottles because they have high financial value.

If you are looking to purchase a bottle, ensure you source it through a trusted, premium merchant like Arden Fine Wines.

So, are you looking to purchase a bottle for a special occasion?

Alternatively, would you like to compare this to other 1983 DRC grand crus?

Ultimately, you can buy it from award-winning Arden Fine Wines in London.
