DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1966

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Romanée-St-Vivant 1966 stands out as a highly-regarded, mature Grand Cru Burgundy red wine.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant serves as a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.

It lies within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.

Interestingly, the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus in Medieval times, inspired its name.

Notably, several different vineyard owners manage Romanée-Saint-Vivant today.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest owner.

Furthermore, in 1966, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti started managing the Romanée-Saint-Vivant vineyard under a lease agreement with the Marey-Monge family.

Therefore, the wines from this period often bore the label of “Domaine Marey-Monge” and DRC managed them.

Subsequently, DRC acquired outright ownership of the plot in 1988.

Moreover, wine enthusiasts widely consider the 1966 vintage a stellar and “utterly sublime” mature Pinot Noir.

Also, the aroma presents incredibly detailed scents of tart red cherry, soy, orange peel, minerals, dried strawberry, and toffee, with an abstract “pinoté” (essence of Pinot Noir).

Consequently, the wine balances perfectly on the palate, featuring a polished texture and a “silver thread of acidity” that provides tension and poise.

Finally, it fills the palate, seemingly chewy, with softness and decadence, and leaves a lovely hint of salinity on the aftertaste.

Indeed, wine critics describe it as “effortless” in its ability to entrance, and recognise it as one of the finest examples of a mature Burgundy.

Ultimately, winemakers produced 18,700 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-St-Vivant in 1966.

Arden Fine Wines in London offers this DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1966.
