A legendary estate in Burgundy, France, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) impresses wine enthusiasts.

The estate produces some of the most sought-after and expensive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines in the world.

The Romanée-Conti vineyard is its most famous Grand Cru.

The vineyard is known for producing wines of exceptional finesse, richness, and longevity.

Interestingly, the Romanée-Conti vineyard occupies a small, 1.81-hectare plot in the heart of the Grand Cru belt in Vosne-Romanée.

Notably, its mid-slope position and shallow, iron-rich limestone soil contribute to the creation of a Pinot Noir with unsurpassed elegance and silky texture.

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti exclusively owns the vineyard as a “monopole.”

The winemakers produce a 100% Pinot Noir here.

They limit production to only about 6,000 bottles made per year, contributing to its scarcity and high value.

1973 Romanée-Conti

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1973 stands out as a rare and highly sought-after mature red Burgundy.

While experts consider the 1973 vintage to be of average quality overall in Burgundy, it is important to note that wine enthusiasts recognise Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s wines for their exceptional ageing potential.

Therefore, as a result of this unique characteristic, collectors may still find bottles from this vintage that offer a remarkable and complex experience.

In addition, the wine typically presents a light, brick-red, and evolved colour.

On the nose, it offers an intense, complex experience, with aromas of cranberry, cherry, plum, mineral, floral notes, and perfume.

Furthermore, another expert highlighted an elegant nose of sous-bois (forest floor), rose petal, spice, and sandalwood.

Moreover, critics describe it as having high acidity, medium tannins, and being balanced, concentrated, and well-structured.

Additionally, reviewers on CellarTracker mention notes of rich, wild red fruits and a great weight on the mid-palate.

Notably, DRC produced 9,627 bottles of Romanée-Conti in 1973.

Consequently, availability remains limited.
