DRC La Tâche 1980
The 1980 growing season in Burgundy was mixed and cool with damp conditions, yet the Côte de Nuits (and Vosne-Romanée specifically) produced exceptional results.
This vintage of La Tâche marks a major turning point for the estate: it was the very first year Domaine de la Romanée-Conti matured its wines entirely without racking (moving wine from barrel to barrel), bottling them directly from the barrel.
The wine has aromas of rose petals, red berries, cherries, spices, forest floor, and subtle game bird.
The palate offers a full-bodied, velvety, and sensual experience, with powdery tannins and a long, deeply perfumed finish.
Overall, it is a triumph that transcends a generally middling Burgundy vintage.
