La Tâche is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.
The commune of Vosne-Romanée hosts La Tâche, which is a monopole of the winery Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a co-owned family estate with vineyards in Vosne-Romanée.
The Marey family bought La Tâche in 1791, who were also vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant.
Following the French Revolution, the state sequestered La Tâche in 1793.
When Dr. Jules Lavalle published his classification of the Burgundy vineyards in 1855, he placed La Tâche in the highest category.
Until 1932, the neighbouring vineyard of Les Gaudichots could be sold either under its own name or as La Tâche.
Also in 1932, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which owned vines in Les Gaudichots, applied to merge it into La Tâche.
Liger-Belair opposed this, as he owned the smaller La Tâche.
However, Liger-Belair lost, and most of Les Gaudichots absorbed into La Tâche.
Eventually, auctioneers sold Liger-Belair’s vineyards in 1933, including his La Tâche holding, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti acquired it.
DRC La Tâche 1961
The 1961 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru is, indeed, a highly sought-after, premium vintage red wine from the Burgundy region of France.
As a monopole of the renowned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), they make it exclusively from the Pinot Noir grapes of the La Tâche vineyard.
Furthermore, critics praise the 1961 vintage for its complexity, elegance, and remarkable longevity.
In fact, critics describe the 1961 as a “brilliant example” of the vintage, remarking on its power, complexity, and longevity.
Notably, the nose showcases its elegance and breed, with complex aromas of spice, dried rose petal, truffle, soy, and sweet earth.
Moreover, the palate features rich, wonderfully complex flavours that include fruit, leather, and chocolate.
In some instances, critics label the wine as “massive” with a long, elegant finish.
This vintage is, therefore, regarded as deeply-coloured for its age, full-bodied, and well-balanced. It possesses an excellent structure with fine, elegant tannins.
Ultimately, the producers crafted 17,328 bottles of DRC La Tâche 1961.
Finally, you can find this DRC La Tâche 1961 at Arden Fine Wines in London.
