The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy from the historic Échézeaux vineyard.

Made from Pinot Noir, this wine stands out as one of the more powerful and robust offerings from the DRC portfolio while still maintaining a sense of elegance.

The Echézeaux vineyard sits on the slopes above Grands Échezeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot.

The soil in the Échezeaux climats (plots) features a more diverse and complex composition than that of Grands Échezeaux.

It consists of Bajocian marls mixed with gravel and alluvial deposits, exhibiting varying altitudes and gradients.

DRC cultivates approximately 4.67 hectares of the Echézeaux vineyard, which spans a total area of about 37.69 hectares.

The majority of DRC’s holdings focus on a highly regarded plot called Les Poulaillaires.

Wine enthusiasts consider the wines from DRC’s Échezeaux plots exquisite examples of top-tier Burgundy.

They showcase bright red fruit, spice, and savoury characteristics.

DRC Échézeaux 1962

The prestigious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) produced the highly sought-after, fine Burgundy wine DRC Échézeaux 1962.

In fact, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produced 9,454 bottles of Échezeaux in 1962.

Moreover, critics regarded the 1962 vintage as one of the best for DRC’s wines, praising it for its elegance and maturity.

Specifically, winemakers make it from 100% Pinot Noir grapes from the Echézeaux vineyard in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, France.

Additionally, the nose features a complex and fully developed bouquet of spices, earth, leather, game, dried rose petals, and forest floor, which experts refer to as sous bois.

Interestingly, one taster described the aromas as “truly jump[ing] from the glass.”

Furthermore, the palate offers rich and elegant, complex flavours and a beguiling sweetness.

Consequently, its firm structure overlays a seductive tenderness.
