Château Latour is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) with an average of 60 years-old in the Enclos, Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.

The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of Château Latour.

It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness.

These wines need time – often a decade – before they begin to be ready for drinking.

Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

Château Latour 1970

The Château Latour 1970 impresses as an exceptional, full-bodied, and mature Bordeaux First Growth wine.

Indeed, many consider it one of the top wines of that classic vintage.

It is still drinking well today.

After a fairly mild winter, the buds broke in late March.

However, frosts in early April immediately slowed and affected the vegetation.

Consequently, the start of spring remained cool, and growth slightly delayed.

Nevertheless, flowering proceeded normally around 15 June.

Moreover, the sun shone brightly in July, and the grapes began to ripen around the 25th.

Subsequently, August remained moderate with no particular extremes.

In September, however, warm and humid weather with high temperatures enabled the grapes to finish ripening.

Furthermore, the rich tannins and promising qualities of this vintage noted during vinification have met all expectations.

Indeed, it exhibits incredible power and concentration.

Additionally, the nose offers layers of cedar, dark chocolate, and the usual spices found in Latour in ripe years.

On the palate, it delivers a generous, massive, and well-balanced experience, with very ripe, rich tannins leaving a fresh finish.

In conclusion, it stands as a great classic.
