The Kopke journey began in 1636.
This is when Nicolau Kopkë settled in Portugal as the Consul General of the Hanseatic League.
Subsequently, in 1638 he shipped the first bottles of wine to northern Europe.
In 1781, he purchased a farm in the Douro, transitioning the company from a wine-buying operation to a major producer.
The company gradually focused on Port Wine, which soon became its main business.
Meanwhile, in 1828 Cristiano Nicolau Kopkë, the great-great-grandson of the founder, sided with the Liberal Party.
Furthermore, the company and the family actively supported the Liberal cause during the civil war.
In 1836, he received the title of Baron of Vilar.
Then, ten years later, his nephew Joaquim Augusto Kopke became Baron of Massarelos.
Two centuries after the family’s arrival in Portugal, their dedication to the country’s development paid off.

To taste a vintage fine wine is to taste history…
This 1975 Kopke Colheita means remembering a special event 51 years ago – a birthday or anniversary.
It is a wine of high quality, made from one single harvest.
A Colheita wine matures in oak barrels for periods of time that can vary.
But it is never less than seven years.
Best served chilled, Kopke Colheita 1975 then reveals all its finesse and sophistication.
A rich and fragrant nose, with dominant notes of dried fruits, spices, caramel, nuts, and a subtle hint of citrus zest.
Hints of walnut and hazelnut are also noted.
It is smooth, silky, and elegant, with concentrated and well-integrated flavours.
Notes of dried fruits, caramel, and spice are layered with nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, and coffee.
Moreover, it is especially enjoyable when drunk with desserts made with caramel.
Or why not try it with dried fruit and spice desserts, such as tarte tatin.
Alternatively, perhaps try it with crème brulée, or with medium-strength cheeses.
