Château Lafite Rothschild
Lafite Rothschild wine steeped in a history that started in the late 17th century, when Jacques de Ségur first planted the vineyards.
In the early 18th century, Nicolas-Marie-Alexandre de Ségur, the Marquis de Ségur, inherited the estate and marketed the wines to the nobility of France and across Europe.
When Lafite entered the court of Versailles, demand for the wine reached record heights.
The Marquis de Ségur earned the nickname “The Prince of Vines”.
In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild purchased the Château.
The Rothschilds have owned the estate ever since.
Lafite Rothschild boasts one of the largest vineyard areas in the Médoc, with 112 hectares that yield about 45,000 cases annually.
Pauillac sits on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, approximately 40km North of Bordeaux.
With the tempering influence of the estuary and a great diversity of soils originating from both the Massif Central and the Pyrenees, Pauillac offers exceptional climatic and geological conditions to make outstanding wines.
Chateau Lafite Rothschild stands to the north of the Pauillac appellation, bordering Saint Estèphe.
Lafite’s best terroirs stretch across the 50ha Plateau des Carruades to the west of the Château.
This plateau, which is the highest point of the Pauillac appellation, drains well and enjoys optimal sun exposure.
Its clay-gravel soils provide excellent water regulating abilities and optimal ripening conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Some 4.5 ha planted in the neighbouring Saint Estephe appellation count amongst the oldest vines of the property.
They yield year after year grapes of outstanding quality for the Grand Vin.

Despite this, wine experts note the Château Lafite Rothschild as a success for the vintage; in fact, it embodies the estate’s signature elegance over raw power.
Additionally, it offers a moderately intense aroma of cassis and fresh tobacco.
Moreover, the wine remains soft, balanced, and charming, with a silky texture and melted tannins.
