The oldest document that mentions Chateau Latour dates from 1331.
Lord Pons granted an authorisation to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert.
As a result of successive marriages and inheritances, Alexandre de Ségur became the owner of Château Latour.
In 1714, a barrel of Château Latour commanded a worth of 4-5 times more than a barrel of typical Bordeaux wine.
By 1729, the ratio increased to thirteen and by 1767 to twenty.
Château Latour exclusively produces wine from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) with an average age of 60 years in the Enclos vineyard.
The heart of the Enclos produces the depth, elegance, and concentration we expect of Château Latour every year.
Here, the winemakers achieve optimal expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) in terms of colour, richness, and freshness.
These wines require time – often a decade – before they become ready for drinking.
Château Latour is also renowned for its ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

Growth started normally around 1 April.
April, May, June and July were warmer and drier than average.
As a result, the grapes ripened quickly and had finished changing colour by 10 August.
After 15 August, the vines began to suffer from the effects of drought to which it had previously resisted.
The grapes continued to ripen but remained small.
Rain returned in the second week of September, raising fears of a deterioration in the quality of grapes.
But the rains were short and allowed volumes to increase slightly without diluting the harvest.
The harvest took place from 16 September–2 October.
The 1976 has a bouquet of cedar and caramel, with a hint of very ripe tomato.
Latour 1976 is full of fruit; rich; and well-concentrated.
