Château Latour is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) in the Enclos, Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.

The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of Château Latour.

It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression.

These wines need time – often a decade – before they begin to be ready for drinking.

Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

The 1973 vintage of Château Latour is a fully mature, elegant wine that drinks well now.

It represents a fully mature Bordeaux from a challenging vintage, but it has surprisingly good longevity for an “off-vintage” year.

Despite the vintage’s reputation, wine enthusiasts know Château Latour’s wines for their exceptional longevity.

This means that a bottle from this year is more likely to still be in good condition than a wine from a less-storied estate from the same year.

Well-preserved bottles can still offer wine lovers a pleasant and elegant drinking experience.

It displays an aged, medium-deep colour with amber, ruby, or brick hues at the rim.

The nose offers complex, mature, tertiary aromas such as cigar box, wet cellar, wood, mocha, cedar, and blackcurrant.

The critics describe the wine as having a very elegant and silky mouthfeel, with a clear expression of sour-sweet cherries.

It achieves a medium-bodied profile with integrated, melted tannins and a fresh, pleasant finish.

Given its age, you should be careful when decanting to avoid sediment, but decanting can help the wine open up and reveal its complex aromas.
