Château Latour is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes” (old vines) in the Enclos, Gravettes, Sarmentier, and Pièce de Château vineyards.
The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of Château Latour.
It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression.
These wines need time – often a decade – before they begin to be ready for drinking.
Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

Latour produced its 1972 vintage red Bordeaux from a generally poor year.
However, wine experts consider the wine itself a big, deeply-coloured expression of the estate’s classic style.
The 1972 Bordeaux growing season encountered significant difficulties with a chilly winter and spring, resulting in an overall poor vintage for the region.
Despite the challenging year, Château Latour managed to produce a wine that experts considered good for the vintage.
The wine displays a brick-red or a matured dark ruby/orange core with a light brownish tinge, typical of a mature, older wine.
Then the nose presents classic Latour aromas of cedar and coffee, along with herbaceous and cedary notes.
On the palate, the wine has some remaining fruit, with a high level of acidity.
Some well-preserved bottles, however, have shown a full body, “perfect tannins,” and flavors of ripe fruit, mineral, and dried black fruits, with a long finish.
Nonetheless, collectors consider the wine a collector’s item.
Due to its age and the challenges of the vintage, wine lovers find the Château Latour 1972 a rare find.
Arden Fine Wines offers this 1972 red wine for sale.
